Osterville Anglers Club Weekly E-News — August 6th, 2012

This past Friday a fleet of 67 boats fished in the 19th annual charity bass & bluefish tournament. The event raised over $450,000 for the Jimmy Fund. Member E.J. Jaxtimer runs the entire event and many OAC members serve on the committee and donate their boats for the day. Next year marks the 20th anniversary and the planning will start very soon.

Tuna Fishing is off the charts

There have been multiple reports of great tuna fishing east of Chatham. OAC member Mak Kariotis caught several during the Cronin tournament. Dave Reid reports an epic day this past Friday with Captain Terry Nugent on Riptide Charters. They landed 11 tuna and had non stop action all day. Sanford Hochman also got in the action with a tuna in recent days.

Going Offshore Fishing or on a Long Trip? Rent an EPIRB

Member Ken Cirillo has suggested this link that allows recreational boaters to rent an EPIRB (allows you to send for help via satellite when you are out of VHF and cell range). A good thing to have if you are chasing tuna east of Chatham or other game fish south of the Vineyard.

Tournaments in the next couple of weeks

Cotuit Bass & Blue

Saturday, August 11th. There will be an awards dinner to follow at Cotuit High Grounds Golf Club. The Captains meeting is Friday, August 10th at 5:30 pm at Freedom Hall in Cotuit. The entry fee is $25 per angler and proceeds will benefit the Cotuit 4th of July parade and Kids Christmas in Cotuit. For additional information, contact member Henry O’Shaughnessy at 508-428-3378.

Hyannis Waterfront Shark Festival

Friday, August 17th – Saturday August 18th. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship funds for the Hyannis Anglers Club and The Osterville Anglers Club. There will be a BBQ at the Hyannis Anglers Club Friday from 5pm-9pm and a surf and turf awards dinner Saturday at 6pm. The Captains meeting is Thursday, August 16th at 6 pm at HAC.
