Joe Cronin Memorial Fishing Tournament This Friday

The 19^th Annual Joe Cronin Memorial Jimmy Fund Fishing Tournament is this Friday, August 3^rd. Over the past 18 years this event has raised over $3,000,000 to help fund cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Registration is from 6:30-7:45am Friday morning, Boats underway 8:00am, Fishing from 8:30-1:30pm. For the complete event schedule and all the details visit their website at www.joecroninfishing.com.

Ladies Shoal Troll: Bass, Blues & Wicked Tuna!

OK…there are fish stories and there are FISH stories. This past Saturday during the Ladies Shoal Troll, it was just another bluefish caught….but as it was reeled back to the boat, the line went tight and started singing off the reel…a large fish had taken the blue and it was identified by Captain Les Shwam as an 800 lb. giant bluefin tuna…it was a short battle, the tuna spit the blue and was gone.

We had 16 boats and 56 women fishing. We raised over $11,000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and had fun doing it. Thanks to member George Scheppler for setting up and running a great weigh station and thanks to member Dave Ryan for having an outstanding Oyster raw bar. There were some nice fish caught, and 10-year old Rachel Dwyer won Youth Division with a 10.3 lb. blue. Results are listed below.

OAC Derby Begins August 1^st

All OAC members in good standing are automatically registered in the 2012 Derby at no cost. We’ll have an Adult Division and Youth Division (15 yrs. and under). The 9 Species include striped bass, bluefish, shark (thresher, mako & porkbeagle), false albacore, bonito, Spanish mackerel, bluefin tuna, black sea bass and fluke. Same point system as Sellars tournaments (1^st = 10 pts, 2^nd = 6 pts; 3^rd = 5 pts for each species). Lines in at 12:01am August 1^st, all weigh-ins should be reported to the OAC within 48 hrs and prior to 6pm on Saturday, Oct. 13^th. A Derby ending cookout and awards will follow that night.
