Fishing Report:  What a difference a week makes

Last week the fishing reports were down right depressing. There were no fish to be found. Monomoy was dead, the Islands were dead and the funny fish were missing. There were some big bass taken off Sandy Neck, but it seemed you had to be there at night or very early morning. This past Friday, E.J. Jaxtimer held a fundraiser for The Genesis Fund, a light tackle tournament called Cape Cod Fall Classic. OAC member George Noonan took first in bass with a nice 24.7 lber. The boats out at Monomoy all reported very good fishing and more importantly, the event raised $50,000 for a great cause. Captain Ron Murphy won the slam award and also took first for bluefish. Andy Little at Powderhorn Outfitters also reported Ron Murphy got a pile of 25lb+ fish on a charter this week end. The O’Shaughnessy family spent the week end down at Cuttyhunk and reported they “got a ton of fish down there”, including this nice 31 lber that youth member Mikey O weighed in for the Striper Cup and our OAC derby. Rob Miller weighed the first bonito for our derby and I was able to find an albie, so maybe this fall will turn out pretty good after all.
