New Members Welcomed This Past Saturday Thank you to members Diane and David Richardson and Ed and Kathy Low for organizing a great party at the OAC. There was great food and music and our newest members were welcomed aboard. Many other members volunteered their time, donated appetizers and pitched-in during the evening to make this a first class event – our thanks to Linda Baker, Florence Keeley, Maureen MacNeil, Carol Seidler, Ellen Weinlich, Dorothy Williams, Cindi and David Reid and Missy McGraw.
OAC Tournament: This Thursday June 28th Come to the Captains meeting at Baxter’s in Hyannis at 6 pm this Wednesday June 27th. Fishing is Thursday the 28th with dinner and awards to follow at Baxter’s. Proceeds will benefit Barnstable Youth Hockey. This is an OAC Sellars eligible tournament. For details, visit:

Cape Cod 5000 Member Todd Walantis reports the Cape Cod 5000 tournament will be held this week end. This is a slot tournament. The winner is determined by the heaviest combination of 2 striped bass measuring 28″- 36″. First prize is $5,000. There is also a bluefish division and there is a total of over $15,000 in cash and prizes. The captain’s meeting is Friday June 29th at the OAC at 6pm. Fishing starts at 12:01 am on June 30th through lines out at 2pm on July 1st. For details, visit: |

Learn To Fish with Captain Ron Murphy (2 spots left for 7/19) The OAC has booked two dates with long time fishing expert, Captain Ron Murphy. He started his charter business in 1976 and has been fishing the waters surrounding Cape Cod for 35+ years. He specializes in fishing the rips with light tackle. Ron was a teacher for over 30 years and a long time member of the OAC. He is a regular speaker at the OAC and always willing to share his secrets of catching big striped bass out at Monomoy. This is a great chance to learn from the best. If you are new to fishing and want to get a jump start or an experienced angler that simply wants a great day on the water. We have the following dates all set:
Thursday July 19th Wednesday August 15th
The cost is $125/angler, which includes: fishing with Ron Murphy on Stray Cat, all tackle and gear and the tip for the Captain and/or crew. Everything is handled, you just need to show up. Spots are available on a first come first serve basis. Your email or phone call will reserve your spot, but payment within a couple days is required to hold your spot. Ron will set the exact fishing times for those dates a couple days prior based on tides and conditions at that time.
If you joined the OAC to improve your fishing skills, this is your chance. Seminars are great for information, but there is no better way to gain experience than just getting out on the water and catching fish.
The Big One That Didn’t Get Away! Member Henry O’ reports that on a recent bass trip to the Elizabeth Islands Henry Jr. hooked into a cow, but the line became tangled around a boulder the size of a car. The typical outcome in this situation is the line gets frayed on the rocks and the fish swims away. Not this time. Henry O’ dropped Jr. onto the rock where he was able to free the line and land the fish. It weighed in just over 30 lbs and was a nice entry in the On The Water Striper Cup.
