Manager’s Corner- William Ferretti

In case you missed it, here is a reprint of the article posted in the Cape Cod Times about the Ladies Shoal Troll.

“Fish caught, money raised in war against breast cancer
The Ladies Shoal Troll is nothing if not colorful.
Since proceeds benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, many (most) of the participants wear pink shirts and some go so far as to get custom hats made for their crew. The event is held at the Osterville Anglers Club at their supreme clubhouse down on Crosby Basin.
Right next door sits Bill Koch’s place. Full flags flying from the 12-meter racing yacht he uses as a lawn ornament. There was a wedding going on there. Security was tight. I visibly worried the valets when I pulled up in my old rust bucket, but I was heading for the fishing tournament.
There were some true “gator” blues at the weigh-in and the winner was Brenna McCoubrey’s lunker 14.85-pounder.
Tamra Haspel won for biggest striped bass with a rock solid 25-pounder that was nearly as big as the second and third place bass combined.
Tamar is a very interesting person. She and her husband Kevin Flaherty own an oyster grant in Barnstable Harbor and grow, raise, hunt and kill much of their diet. Tamar writes a blog called Starving off the Land about how they moved from Manhattan to the Cape and now do things like raise pigs for food.
Seventy-six women competed on 22 boats and they raised over $17,000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, which keeps the money local.
Way to go, ladies!”  CC Times

Arrived at the club this morning to many emails with great fishing results of the weekend. Kitty Kania caught a 262 lb Porbeagle (Shark), Sam Jaxtimer landed a monster 466 lb Bluefin tuna, Michael Singer a 7.9 lb fluke and Jackson Friel (a Sponsored Youth member) a 23.9 lb striped bass.  Please see the OAC Derby updates below.

Please mark your calendar- the OAC is having a youth scavenger hunt August 21st from 4-6pm. Members with children or grandchildren under 16 are encouraged to join us for a boat scavenger hunt around Three Bays in search of various items. Don’t worry if you do not have a boat- you are still welcome to participate and we will find a spot on a boat for you.  If anyone is willing to take on a few extra passengers, that would be great.

Please RSVP to the Club bu August 10th.
Do NOT forget the life jackets for the children.
